Kentucky Soldier Killed In WWII Identified, To Buried In Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN (09/13/23) – The remains of a World War II soldier killed in combat in Italy will be laid to rest in Elizabethtown later in the month. Army Private Joe Brooks of Rockfield was just 19 years old when he was killed in August of 1943. The remains were deemed “non-recoverable” until identified by the Defense Department last year. Brooks’ remains will be buried in the Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens a week from Saturday.
