Governor Andy Beshear has declared that Kentucky’s public and private schools will close classrooms starting Monday, in a move to prevent the state’s healthcare system from being overwhelmed by new cases. The governor said elementary schools can resume classroom instruction December 7, if their counties drop from red. Middle and high schools can reopen classrooms on Jan. 4. He also said the state will require bars and restaurants to only serve patrons outdoors or through carryout. No indoor dining will be allowed. Those restrictions begin Nov. 20 through at least December 13th. Beshear also said private gatherings should be limited to only two households or to eight people in total from November 20th through December 13th. Gatherings in settings such as weddings or funerals should be limited to only 25 people per room. Wednesday’s numbers showed 2,753 new positive cases of COVID-19, with 15 additional virus-related deaths reported. The governor also ordered the National Guard to assist at medical facilities yesterday.
