BEWLEYVILLE (12/05/18) — Nearly 70 years after he was killed in the Korean War, an Army Soldier from Breckinridge County has been laid to rest.

The remains of Robert Sipes, Jr. were buried in the Bethel Cemetery near Bewleyville on Wednesday. Sipes was killed in combat in 1950, but only recently identified by the military and returned to Kentucky.

Anna Priest is Sipes’ brother; she recalled how news of her brother’s death caused their parents to cry “for days” afterward…

The funeral procession passed under a giant American flag as it left the Alexander Funeral Home in Irvington and proceeded to Bethel where an Honor Guard provided a 21-gun salute and playing of ‘Taps’.

Governor Matt Bevin ordered flags at state building flown at half-staff on Wednesday in memory of Sipes.
