Kisner and Olesen shot 4-under 67s for a one-stroke edge over five players, including U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka. Zach Johnson is at even par, while Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are 1-over.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will have a total knee replacement surgery. It’s the sixth surgery in 17 months for the 70-year-old coach, who has won a Division I men’s-record 1,071 games to go with five NCAA championships.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has announced its earliest opening night in 37 years. Finalists Golden State and Clevelland will feature in separate games on October 17th. The NBA moved up the start of the regular season in hopes of creating more opportunities for players to rest without doing so during games.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Scooter Gennett hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, ending left-hander Brad Hand’s long scoreless streak and rallying the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The Reds won three of four in the series.

UNDATED (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals picked up their sixth straight win and pulled within one game of the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs. Dexter Fowler crushed a grand slam in the seventh inning to send St. Louis past Kansas City, 8-5. Fowler also supplied an RBI double that sparked a game-tying, three-run sixth.

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Nationals moved 15 games ahead in the NL East, while the Los Angeles Dodgers expanded their lead in the NL West to 16 games over Colorado. Brian Goodwin broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the eighth inning and finished with two RBIs in the Nats’ 3-2 win at Miami. Enrique Hernandez lined a three-run double and Chris Taylor homered as the Dodgers outlasted the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-6.
