Breckinridge County Board of Education

8/10/2017—The Breckinridge County Board of Education set tax rates for the 2017/18 school year at their regular meeting Thursday afternoon.  The real and personal property tax rate will remain the same-53.2 cents per $100 assessed valuation.  The motor vehicle tax rate will also remain the same at 55.7 cents.

 

In other business, the Board heard updates on the Irvington and Hardinsburg Elementary School construction projects.  The contractual completion date for the Irvington project is August 28.  Assistant Superintendent Richard Butler said teachers will get keys to their rooms and begin moving personal items on September 11.  Students will start classes in the new school on October 9, which is the first day back from Fall Break.  Walls and concrete slabs are being erected at the Hardinsburg site.  They also have begun drilling the geo-thermal wells.

 

The Board selected Sherman, Barnhart and Carter as architects for the Area Technology Center renovation project.  Codell Construction was selected as the construction manager.

 

The Board set adult lunch and breakfast prices.  Adults will pay $3.50 for lunch, and $2.25 for breakfast.

 

The school calendar was amended.  There will be no school on August 21, the day of the eclipse.

 

The Board approved a voluntary fee of $25.00 for eighth grade students who want to take their Chromebook’s home.

 

The Board approved an out of attendance area request, and an out of state field trip by the Area Technology Center welding and auto technology students to Indianapolis.

 

The annual review of Data Security Practices was approved.

 

Technology equipment was declared as surplus property and may be disposed according to KRS practices.

 

According to Head Start Director Jared Brockman, the Head Start program has full enrollment for the year.  Brockman stated there is a waiting list.

 

The Board changed its regular meeting date.  Beginning in September, the Board will meet the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm at the Central Office.
