BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — New Indiana coach Archie Miller says he intends to win the in-state recruiting battles and bring back a defense-first philosophy to the tradition-rich program. The 38-year-old Miller introduced Monday as the replacement for Tom Crean, who missed the NCAA Tournament five times in nine seasons.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A battle over control of the Los Angeles Lakers is over after an agreement was reached to have Jeanie Buss serve as controlling owner of the storied NBA franchise. Documents filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court state that Jim and Johnny Buss have agreed that their sister will serve as the controlling owner. The agreement came just weeks after she removed brother Jim as vice president of basketball operations.

PHOENIX (AP) — National Football League owners have voted 31-1 to approve the relocation of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas. The decision was a foregone conclusion after the league and Raiders were not satisfied with Oakland’s proposals for a new stadium, and Las Vegas stepped up with $750 million in public money.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have released outfielder Ryan Raburn after he struggled to earn a bench spot. Raburn hit .219 during spring training. Raburn has played for the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians and Colorado Rockies during his career.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Veteran reliever Joe Nathan has been released by the Washington Nationals, ending his bid to make the team a week before opening day. Nathan’s 377 career saves rank second among active pitchers and eighth in major league history.

AVONDALE, La. (AP) — PGA Tour star Jason Day says he expects to travel to Augusta, Georgia on Friday to start practicing for the Masters, but could pull still out of the season’s first major, depending on his mother’s prognosis following surgery for lung cancer last week.
