(03/24/17)- The Breckinridge County Fighting Tiger baseball team saw their two-game winning streak snapped in an 8-5 loss to Owensboro Catholic on Thursday (03/23). Their next game is Monday (03/27) at Whitesville Trinity.

The Lady Tiger softball team won their fourth straight game, rallying from an early deficit to beat John Hardin, 10-4 on Thursday at the Ballpark. The Lady Tigers travel to Ohio County for a game on Tuesday (03/28).

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Top seed Gonzaga’s game in the NCAA Tournament went down to the wire before the top-seeded Bulldogs pulled out a 61-58 thriller against West Virginia on Jordan Mathews’ go-ahead 3-pointer with under a minute left. The Mountaineers led by three late in the game and had three chances to tie the game following Mathews’ final basket.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — No. 11 Xavier pulled off the biggest surprise of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday by beating second-seeded Arizona, 73-71 in the West Regional semifinal at San Jose. Sean O’Mara hit a short basket with 40 seconds left before Allonzo Trier missed a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds, sending the Musketeers into the Elite 8 for the first time since 2008.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Frank Mason III and Devonte Graham dropped in 26 points apiece as top seed Kansas blasted Purdue, 98-66 in the NCAA Tournament. Josh Jackson added 15 and 12 rebounds for the Jayhawks, who put together an 11-0 run after carrying a seven-point lead into the second half. Kansas will take on Oregon in the Midwest Regional final on Saturday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tyler Dorsey capped his 20-point night by nailing the go-ahead layup with 1:08 left to lead third seed Oregon past Michigan, 69-68 in the NCAA’s Midwest Regional semifinals. Dorsey has delivered six straight games of 20 points or more, a streak that began in the Pac-12 Tournament. Jordan Bell finished with 16 points and 13 boards for Oregon.

U-K Basketball is back in action tonight in the N-C-Double-A Tournament, facing U-C-L-A in the South Region semifinals in Memphis. The Bruins topped the Wildcats in a meeting earlier this year in Lexington. WXBC’s coverage begins at 7 tonight, with tip-off scheduled for 8:40. The other semifinal pits North Carolina against Butler.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) —The NCAA says in it’s response to the University of Louisville that it is standing by its allegations against the men’s basketball program and Rick Pitino, saying the coach failed to notice “red flags” in activities by a former staffer who an escort says hired dancers for parties with recruits and players. The next step is a hearing before the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions, but no date was set.
